Of Thongs and Boots.

It was more than a reminder of fleeing feet.
Of rural necessities.
And urban comforts.

Footwear of the cheapest kind.
It was more than a reminder of stark contrasts.
Of exposure to the elements.
And security of closure.
The struggles of the many.
And the opulence of the few.
It was more than a reminder of our common purpose.
Of our differences.
And yet our inherent similarities.
It stood as a reminder to the other.
That the feet that previously slipped into them
Were just as Papua New Guinean
As theirs which slipped into State issued boots.
That pile of thongs.
