Prime Minister
Peter O’Neill will open a Memorial Park at the Divine Word University campus on
Friday to mark the 1st anniversary of the Airlines PNG Dash 8-100 plane crash
near Madang town that claimed 28 lives while four survived.
The DWU Community is putting up the Memorial Park in respect of those who
died on the plane crash of 13th October, 2011 where 11 were relatives of
university students.
Ten of the family members of
students were travelling to Madang for the DWU Missioning Ceremony for outgoing
final year students when they were killed in the plane crash.
One relative was
an elder brother of a continuing student who was on a business trip to Madang
from Lae. This will be the second time the Prime
Minister will be at DWU campus after he first went
there few days after crash
on October 13, 2011 and attended the funeral service
organized by the university.
At the service, the Prime
Minister had committed K500,000 for the next of kin to assist with funeral
expenses. Mr O’Niell gave the money to President of DWU, Fr Jan Czuba who then
divided it equally among the next of kin.
The Prime Minister will be at DWU as the guest of honour at the 4th
Missioning Ceremony of DWU where outgoing final year students are “missioned” to
move out of the University into the professional world. Ends/
